Over these last couple of weeks we have heard powerful words from Pastor Paul and Pastor Jesse about Joshua and his courage and trust in God. So what does true courage look like? How are we to be strong and courageous? Courage is not just a feeling we don’t just pray, “God make me courageous” and then wake up one day and say I feel courageous. Courage is an action, it is a decision we make when we put a trust in God. Courage is to step into that area that frightens you; when you are faced with what seems like an impossible challenge in the eyes of man. True courage is trusting in the promise of God and not being shaken.
Trusting in God without having any guarantee of the outcome can be one of the most difficult things to do, but that’s where faith comes in. The Bible is filled with ordinary people who showed great courage. David when he went with just five stones to slay goliath; Daniel when he was thrown in the loins den; Joshua as he marched round the walls of Jericho; Gideon as he led an army of only 300 men; Peter as he stepped out of the boat onto the water and many more. But their courage came from their faith and confidence in God. Courage means keeping your eyes fixed on the promises of God and knowing he is with us through everything we do.
So during these 21 days let put our faith in action and be courageous, whether it’s speaking to that college about Christ, stepping into a new job, or trusting God during financial difficulties. Courage may look different in different circumstances, but it will always require stretching and trusting in God.
Awesome encouragement.
